Downtown Shreveport Demolition Derby

The latest Downtown Shreveport Demolition Derby began in earnest in  1998. Historic buildings were demolished in the 100 block and 500 block of Texas Street, the 200, 600, 700 and 800 block of Milam Street, and the 500 block of Common Street in a short period of time.  The area around the Long-Allen (Texas Street) Bridge in the 100 block of Texas St was a bustling demolition hub with three storefronts on the north side and nine storefronts on the south side being leveled within a three year period. Gone were many of the venues for the night club scene from the late 1970s– The Mississippi River Company, Dominic’s, The Fun Shop, The Sports Page, the Aztec Calendar, and others.  Please see the subpages for photographs of those demolitions.
